Happy Birthday Pop Pop

At Zoe's Baptism July 2008

First visit from Grammie and Pop Pop

Realized we need to take more pics of Pop Pop, especially with the grandchildren. When we are visitng next week, someone has to rememind us to capture more on film.
In other news, Zoe is doing much better at "school" this week. Yesterday she went in without crying, which I think kind of made Daddy sad. He knows it is great that she is getting comfortable there, but I think he misses her missing him. Momy and Zoe are trying to get better after being sick over the weekend. I lost my voice Sunday and Monday, but feel much better today.
GiGi (Lar's grandmother) had some procedures last week, but hope she is on the mend so she is well enough to visit with us next week.
Not much else to report. Take care.

Discovery Place

Last weekend, it rained all weekend, so I took Zoe to the Discovery Place which is a little science museum in Charlotte. They have a special area for little kids and she loved it. She played at the water table, and with the dress up clothes, and learned about dinosaurs. Those all seem to be favorite activities.....anything animal related, water related, or anything involving looking at herself in the mirror.

She cracks me up with this look

Welcome to the new site

For those of you that follow our old site, thanks for switching over to the new site. Welcome to the Ide Family Blog.

Zoe started daycare/preschool last week and it went very well and she seemed happy to go.

This week, totally different story. I think last week was just the calm before the storm. This week was more what I thought last week was going to be. Purple face crying, feet stomping, "momma, momma, momma" "byebyebyebye" and holding her hands up to me. We know that she will get used to it eventually and she needs time. Ms Tina has had to hold her for about 10min everyday when we leave, but the last two days...no holding required. (I review her day on the video camera feed from her classroom). She still is in awe of all the other kids though. It takes her 30-40 minutes to eat her meals there (when it is more like 10 minutes here) because she is people watching and when she eventually does finish eating she just stands there watching everyone or plays by herself. She is getting closer to the group though, where she used to stand on the other side of the room, now she is in the middle of the group but just watching. She reminds us of one of those music videos where the main character is just standing still but all the people around thema re in fast forward. We are also having trouble with her drinking her milk there. They use open cups (not sippy) and she usually either crushes the cup trying to hold it too tightly or spills it. So we are trying to use them at home too, to help her out, but she is not buying into it just yet.

On the other hand, mommy and daddy really like school time. We feel so much more human. We can go to the gym, run errands, and clean the house while she is gone for 3 hours. And actually talk to each other for longer than a sentence or two. The guilt lasted only a few days, and now we totally appreciate the time alone. I am not sure how stay at home moms/dads do it for years and years like this. Don't get me wrong, I am glad she only has to go a few hours and not a 10 hour day; for that we are very lucky, but gosh this is a welcome change. Kudos to all you stay at home parents.
